Family Tree Software
The main software database program used for genealogy research has been PAF, originally used on CP/M based computer (the Amstrad PcW9512+) it was then imported into PAF4 and used on a variety of windows based computers (Windows 95 thru to Windows 10).
The data from PAF was made available on the original web site (espinet.freeserve.co.uk) until it was no longer supported and servers closed down by EE. The online data had been uploaded using the web creations option within PAF, however this only gave static web pages and so a true searchable database with numerous reporting facilities was identified as HuMo-gen. That is the software that has been used to create this Family Tree Website.
PAF/Ancestral Quest
The original PAF program is no longer updated but has been suceeded by Ancestral Quest produced by Incline Software, a company first formed in 1994 by the Genealogical Society of Utah based in Salt Lake City.
Ancestral Quest Basic. It contains everything required to create a basic family tree, all the core features of the full Ancestral Quest software but with fewer of the more advance features. The full Ancestral Quest version contains all the more advanced features for a relatively small one off charge. Ancestral quest enables you to create a family tree on your own computer, to create multimedia scrapbooks, and to create all manner of charts. It also provides hints and tips to help you find missing information, allows you to collaborate with other software users, and allows you to save all the information in the internationally recognised 'gedcom' format.
HuMo-gen
HuMo-gen. When your saved 'gedcom' file is added to it, Hu-Mo-gen takes all the information from the 'gedcom' file and uses it to create a responsive website that looks as good on a mobile phone as it does on a computer. It allows you to display all the images and family tree charts, allows you to filter information about living people, and it allows you to limit the amount of information visible to non-family visitors to your website. Once your family tree website has been created HuMo-gen allows you to add additional pages of information (like this one), or create a different home-page. There is a comprehensive user manual available, and also an active forum monitored by the software creators. It has the tripple benefit of being, free, easy to use, comprehensive, and responsive genealogy website creation software.
